The Kiwanis Club of Jamestown has committed to packaging 100,000 meals for Kids Against Hunger. It needs more donations to make that goal.
This program packages nutritious meals for starving and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the United States.
To purchase supplies to make the meal packages, at total of $23,000 needs to be raised by March 1. Roughly one month before that deadline, the club has raised $7,500, leaving $15,500 yet to be raised.
Donations are being accepted at First Community Credit Union, 111 Ninth St. S.W., in Jamestown. Checks can be made out to the Kiwanis Club of Jamestown.
Following the fundraising for the supplies, Jamestown will hold a packaging event where volunteers will assemble the meals. The packaging date is set for April 16 at the old Walt Sanders facility in southeast Jamestown. Four hundred volunteers will be needed for the event.
“This is a great opportunity for our community to join together and make a difference in the lives of countless children around the world,†said Janna Bergstedt, Kiwanis Club member and event organizer. “We invite everyone to help wherever they can – financially, physically, or both!â€
The club has several fundraising events in the works, including a soup and sweet Sale that will be held on Feb. 5 beginning at noon. The fundraiser will be held at the Buffalo Mall in conjunction with Cabin Fever Days and the Blue Grass Jam.
