The following press release was sent out by City Engineer Reed Schwartzkopf at about 11 a.m. today.

Due to the significant changes in the weather forecast and the existing weather conditions, the City Street Department will begin removing snow from the Emergency Snow Routes beginning within the next hour.

Crews will be working on the Snow Emergency Routes again by 6:00 a.m. MONDAY morning, January 25, 2010 continuing into the Residential areas at 11:00 a.m. Crews will begin removing snow in the DOWNTOWN area at 11:00 p.m. MONDAY night, January 25, 2010 and continue during the night. Downtown merchants are asked to have their sidewalks shoveled by 9 p.m. MONDAY night before the blades begin the downtown snow removal program.

    might as well get started with the plowing now, seeing as how all the other towns in the region are already done.

    I was hoping they’d just forget about doing my street now, seeing that the snow has already been packed down to ice. I’ll have to about kill myself shoveling that mess the plow will leave at my driveway. I have a snowblower but it doesn’t do ice chunks.
