Giving up on the gates

The following press release, posted here word-for-word, arrived moments ago from the Jamestown City Engineer’s Office. You’re welcome to discuss it in the comments section below.

The City of Jamestown is hereby notifying the public that the snow gates will be removed from the City snow plows today for an indefinite period of time.

We are sorry for the problems we know this will create in our community, but the large amount of snow we received over the holiday has created problems for much of our snow removal equipment.

Specifically, numerous difficulties and several equipment failures have occurred while trying to continue using the gates. These problems are increasing and slowing down snow removal and “push-back” operations.

We hope to be able to begin using them again in the near future, weather permitting.

no surprise here. they seem to find a reason not to use the gates every year.

Can they get any slower? And we’re in for more snow again!

Maybe if they actually even went out to plow the snow period that would be a good start. Then maybe they would not have to worry about how long it is taking. At this point gates or no gates atleast get out there and start moving some snow. Geez.

I would like to know how cities throughout the state are removing snow in a timely manner as compared with us here. Hmmmm… must be more hours in the day in those cities.

I love the poll placed on the Sun’s webpage in regards to the plowing!!

I don’t understand, the state is located in the snowbelt, you know you’re going to get snow every winter and you continue to find a reason not to plow efficently?? Get the right equipment for one, I know it’s expensive but it’ll payoff in the long run. Where I live now, the plowing is done very well considering the bigger population than Jamestown. Also, get out and plow when it starts to accumulate, that may use more gas but at least it lightens the load on the plows. It also helps in minimizing the compact ice that builds up on the road.
