According to Stars and Stripes, Walmart has been gouging online shoppers who send purchases to members of the military overseas. Even though the Department of Defense picks up the tab for the extra distance, Walmart has claimed that it costs more to deliver to these locations.
Walmart is efficient and cheap, because it’s really just an economic machine, and a heartless one at that. It’s shameful.
I should note that the article indicates that Target and Amazon.com were honest about APO addresses, and that the U.S. Postal Service will be too. So if you’re sending a present to a soldier, Marine, airman or seaman, consider buying it in Jamestown and shipping it from our downtown post office. Hint, hint.
