A rare sight

I just spoke to the folks at Eddy Funeral Home, who told me that the funeral procession this afternoon for Ernest Wayne "E.W." Wiese will include a horse-drawn hearse, which is something you don’t see too often these days.

The funeral procession is expected to start at 3 p.m. and head north from the funeral home in southwest Jamestown on Second Avenue West until it reaches U.S. Highway 281, which it will follow to Highland Home Cemetery north of town. If you live or work near any of these routes, you might want to keep an eye out for this veteran’s procession.

I have also been told that a cannon will be fired at the graveside service, so don’t be alarmed if you hear a loud boom sometime around 3:30 or so this afternoon.

You can read Wiese’s obituary in The Jamestown Sun.
